Henry Ford revolutionized the way of life of many people with his vision that owning a car should be practical and affordable.
The moving assembly line and mass production techniques it developed set the standard for global industrial practices in the first half of the 20th century.
The story begins in Springwells Township, in Wayne County, Michigan (USA) on July 30, 1863.
Interest in mechanics aroused in young Henry from a very young age. He worked in a machine shop at the age of 12, built his first steam engine at the age of 15, and became an apprentice machinist at the age of 16.
During this time, Ford experimented with automobiles and internal combustion engines, both at work and at home. The first Ford engine came to life in 1893 on a wooden table in the family home at 58 Bagley Avenue in Detroit. Shortly afterward, Ford built its first automobile.
Henry Ford died at his home in Fairlane, Dearborn, on April 7, 1947, at 11:40 a.m. He was 83 years old. At the time of his death, the Rouge River had flooded the area causing a local blackout. In the dim light of kerosene lamps and lit candles, the scene must have rather evoked his birth, 83 years ago.
